Sara Black

3rd Grade Teacher

Sara holds dual Bachelors degrees in Middle School Education and Elementary Education with endorsements in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies from Northeastern Illinois University, where she was president of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society. She served as a school board member at Long Beach Catholic Regional School in New York before coming to Embers in 2014. Sara’s focus is on helping students hone executive functioning skills through modeling and practice. Her students are given increasing responsibility culminating in the hands-on opportunity to incubate and hatch chicken eggs in the classroom. The family-like atmosphere at Embers has been a highlight for Sara who has found herself teaching students whose parents she went to school with, or whose parents went to school with her children!

Sara spends most of her free time gardening, cooking, and spending time with her children and 10 grandchildren. Her family are members of St. Philip parish in Northfield, but they enjoy visiting neighboring parishes as well.
