A Grateful Goodbye
Dear Parents,
“Lucy felt a little frightened, but she felt very inquisitive and excited as well. She looked back over her shoulder and there, between the dark tree trunks, she could still see the open doorway of the wardrobe and even catch a glimpse of the empty room from which she had set out.”
It’s sometimes difficult for us adults to maintain the child-like sense of wonder we’re born with. As the 5th Graders have discussed with me while reading together this spring, the challenges of the grown-up world can consume us entirely if we’re not vigilant in maintaining joyful imaginations.
Thank you–each of you–for the privilege of exercising my imagination alongside you and your beautiful sons and daughters these last two years. I felt a little like Lucy looking into the wardrobe when I first arrived here, but just as she found a world of faith and wonder beyond its doors, I, too, discovered a treasure trove at Embers worth celebrating.
Providence has called me, Kristine, and our family to a new adventure. You make it so very difficult to say goodbye because of your unwavering commitment to living lives of virtue and friendship, and teaching your children to do the same. That goodbye is eased by the knowledge that Pablo Boville is humbly taking the helm and will carry our shared mission forward for the glory of God. He’s the perfect man for the job, and an even better friend. You’re lucky to have him, along with the incredible faculty and staff of the school.
Farewell for now, but if you find yourselves in the Shenandoah Valley, our doors are always open. “And that is the very end of the adventure of the wardrobe. But if the Professor was right, it was only the beginning of the adventures of Narnia.”
Sincerely,
Christopher Goffos
Headmaster

Congratulations, 5th Grade!
Our 5th Grade Sparks celebrated their big move to middle school during the 5th Grade Farewell on Tuesday. The evening was full of laughter and tears as students recounted unforgettable moments from their time at Embers. It was truly a celebration of our students’ growth and the lasting friendships that have flourished throughout the years.
To our amazing students — your ‘spark’ has brightened our days, and we know it will continue to shine wherever you go. Keep spreading that light and joy into the world. We will miss you!
