Spooky Season has Started!

Great ready for a little bit of tricks and a whole lot of treats. The weather tomorrow will be beautiful for the EPA Trunk or Treat event, so come on over and join the fun. Last minute “drive-in”s are welcome!

B is for Box Day

Last Friday, our 5th Grade helped PK3 students learn the letter ‘B’ and let their imaginations fly during the annual Box Day. Students worked in teams to transform oversized packing boxes into all kinds of creations: castles, race cars, stoves, pirate boats – even an aquarium!

Cold Weather Gear

Monday’s sudden plunge into cold weather reminded us that winter will be here soon! Please remember to send your children to school with the appropriate cold weather gear. Students play outside any day it reaches at least 20-degrees by lunchtime. It is also common for teachers to lead an outdoor walk to encourage creativity or get some wiggles out. With your help, we can ensure that all students are prepared for a Chicago winter!

All Saints Day Mass

Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 1 (instead of Wednesday) in celebration of All Saints’ Day. Students are encouraged to ‘be a saint’ and may include with their uniform something that symbolizes a saint they would like to represent. Any clothing item must be worn over uniforms; this is not an out-of-uniform day.

All Souls Day

All Souls Day is Wednesday, November 2. Starting this week, students may bring in a picture of someone they know that has passed away in the last year. These photos will be displayed on the ofrenda in our main lobby and we will pray for the repose of their souls during the month of November.

Keeping Them on Their Toes
3rd grade gym class this week focused on teamwork, coordination and balance as they tried to keep a bevy of balloons off the ground. They were very successful (and only popped a few!).

Parent Seminar Leaves Participants Feeling Tech-Savvy

More than 100 parents gathered last Saturday to hear the presentation from Mr. Fagan and Dr. Williams on Technology in the Digital Age. Many highlights were covered including:
  • The effect of digital media on young brains
  • Tech equipment that helps maintain safety
  • The correct time for technology use (spoiler alert: it’s not based on a certain age!)
  • And so much more!

Mr. Fagan has provided a handout summarizing the event in the link below. We encourage all parents who are curious about – or struggling with – technology in their children’s lives to read and reflect.

A special thank you to the Embers Parents Association for sponsoring this presentation and aiding parents in tackling this tough issue!
