    “SPARK” NOTES

FEAST DAY ACTIVITIES

Today’s Feast of the Immaculate Conception began with 5th grade leading an all-school Rosary in the Assembly Room, followed by all the students decorating our 5 outside Christmas trees during recess. The day concluded with an all-school Mass.

FR. CHRIS READS TO K

Fr. Chris Gustafson, pastor of Our Lady of Ransom Parish, made a special visit to the Kindergarten class on Wednesday, Dec. 6th.  He read a story about St. Nicholas, explaining how St. Nick helped others, without anyone knowing it was from him. Fr. Chris told the students they could follow St. Nick’s example and do nice things for others too!   Thank you, Fr. Chris!  

NOVENA @ ST. MARY / ANGELS

Many Embers students sang at St. Mary of the Angels’ Novena Mass on Saturday, Dec. 2nd. The Novena will conclude tonight with Mass at 7:15 p.m.         

ADVENT:  HELPING OTHERS

Special thanks to all Embers families who donated food this week to OLR’s Food Pantry! Next week, Monday, Dec. 11th – Friday, Dec. 15th, Embers will hold a ‘Keep ’em Toasty’ Drive. 
A special table will be set up for new, socks, hats, gloves and mittens for the needy. Whatever you are able to do is greatly appreciated. Please ask your children to get involved in this spirit of giving.

ANNUAL FUND GIFT

A very special thank you to the families that have already donated to Embers Annual Fund. New this year, donations can be made online, through ‘GIVING’ on our website, www.embersacademy.org, or by returning the donation envelope. Our goal is 100% participation from all Embers families, whether it’s $5 or $5000. Every donation is important and makes a difference! Please prayerfully consider being a part of this important mission. Thank you!

NOTE: The class that has the most families participating to the Annual Fund will win a pizza party!

MID-QUARTER II

Wednesday was the mid-quarter of Semester II. Progress reports will go home next Friday, Dec. 15th. Remember, you can always check grades or homework on Teacherease!

AWESOME BOOK FAIR!

The Usborne Book Fair last week was a huge success! It earned $1000 in free books for the Embers classrooms! Thank you to all the families that visited the Fair and to Mrs. Boland and the office staff for your patience and help.

POINSETTIA PICK-UP

Thanks to all the families who ordered poinsettias, and to Mrs. Grandinetti and Mrs. Spingola, who helped parents with pick-up on Thursday. We hope the plants will add some Christmas cheer to your home!

CHRISTMAS PARTIES

Embers Class Christmas Party Schedule: 
PK3:  Thursday, Dec. 14th in Paluch Hall
PK4:  Wednesday, Dec. 20th in Paluch Hall
Kindergarten:  Monday, Dec. 18th
Gr. 1-5: MOVED to Friday, Dec. 15th (Wear Red & Green Day!)
             (so we can celebrate Mass on our last day of school in 2017)

Faculty and Staff Christmas Party: Friday, Dec. 15th @ 4 p.m.

There will be NO After Care and NO Chess Scholars on Friday, Dec. 15th  due to the  Faculty and Staff Party at 4 p.m. Please make arrangements now to have your students picked up at 3:05 p.m. on the 15th.  Thank you.

FACULTY CHRISTMAS FUND

Participation in the Faculty Christmas Gift Fund is requested by Monday, Dec. 18th. Questions can be directed to Mrs. Maureen Buttkus.

COOKIES WITH SANTA

All preschool and younger children are invited to have Cookies with Santa on Monday, Dec. 18th from 10 – 11 a.m. in OLR’s Paluch Hall. The children will enjoy Christmas Read Aloud, Photos with Santa, and Christmas Caroling. Parents, please feel free to invite neighbors and friends with young children!

PK4-5th CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Embers Christmas Concert for all PK4-5th grade students will be held at Northridge Prep on Tuesday, Nov. 19th at 6:30 p.m. NRP is located 5 minutes north of Embers at 8320 N. Ballard Road in Niles. Parents, please have students arrive at 6:15 p.m. 

Concert attire:

  • PK4: Dress Clothes
  • Kindergarten- 5th: Black Dress Pants or Skirts; fancy Red, Green or White Tops; Dark Brown or Black Dress Shoes.
    (No t-shirts or casual clothes please!)
Students will also be provided props, but the following grade levels should plan on bringing:
  • 4th Grade: Sunglasses 
  • 5th Grade: Winter Scarves
  • Mass Choir: Fun Christmas Socks

EMBERS MOM’S CLUB

Embers Mom’s Club met at Mrs. William’s house on Wednesday night for ‘Canvas & Wine’ with Amy Walsh. It was such a fun get-together! The next Mom’s Club meeting is on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 7:30 p.m. for Katie Hinderer’s ‘Fashion Tips’.  All Embers moms are invited to attend.
