Embers’ Literacy Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate the gift of literacy and explore the joy that we receive from reading, writing, and communicating with others.  We have many fun activities planned, including:

Literacy Week Daily Themes

• Monday, March 1: Get Into the Spirit of Reading!
  (Embers Spirit Wear Day)
• Tuesday, March 2: Hats Off to Reading
  (Wear a hat in honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday)
• Wednesday, March 3: Knock Your Socks Off for Reading
  (Crazy Sock Day) 
• Thursday, March 4: Read in the Dark/Read with a Buddy
  (Bring a stuffed buddy to school)
• Friday, March 5: Team Up with Reading
  (Out-of-uniform in favorite team shirt) 

Read-A-Thon

All students in grades PK – 5th are encouraged to participate by reading at least 20 minutes each day (from March 1 – 26), and asking family and friends to sponsor their reading!  Funds raised will go towards literacy enhancements in our curriculum.  Prizes will be awarded at the end of the Read-A-Thon.

Bookmark Contest  

Students in grades K – 5 were invited to design a bookmark for Literacy Week.  All designs should reflect the theme ‘Shine Bright and READ!’ and must be submitted no later than Monday, March 1st.

In celebration of 100% participation in the Spirit of Embers! Essay Contest, the entire school enjoyed sledding and hot chocolate with Mrs. Hanretty and Mrs. Thursby on Friday afternoon!

On Monday, February 22, all current Embers families received a 2021-2022 Re-Enrollment Contract via myEmbers! portal that every family should have previously established. New families will begin enrolling on Saturday, March 20. For more information, please click HERE.

On Wednesday, the 2nd Graders made their First Reconciliation and celebrated with pizza afterwards!  Please keep the 2nd Graders in your prayers as they continue to prepare for their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 22nd at St. Mary of the Angels in Chicago.

Open House in-person sessions will be available for prospective families on the following Wednesdays:

• March 10 and 24

Registration is required. Two informational presentations will be held: 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., each followed by a tour and Q&A with the Head and Asst. Head of School.
Invite your friends, family, and neighbors to attend an Open House session! Please ask them to sign up HERE to reserve a time slot.

We are talking about the virtue of Heroism this month at Embers. Watch one of the movies below to ‘spark’ a discussion about this virtue with your children:

Parents may receive a deduction on Illinois State Taxes for private school tuition.  You may access a ‘Paid Tuition Tax Report’ on your TADs account by logging into your account and clicking on the ‘Reports’ tab.

Rangers Father-Son Club

The Rangers Father-Son Club is open to fathers and their sons in 1st through 3rd grade.  Rangers helps young boys to develop virtues (fortitude, temperance, etc.) through talks and fun activities. The next meeting will be March 14.  Click here for more information.
