Preschool Program

The Embers Academy Preschool program offers children the opportunity to learn through play, which is the work of childhood. Children are engaged in the learning process through developmentally-appropriate lessons and activities in the areas of physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development, in conjunction with the overall mission of Embers Academy.

Faith Formation

Our Preschool students have daily formation in the Catholic faith and participate in the monthly school virtue curriculum.

  • Introduction to Catholic prayers and devotions
  • Instruction in church gestures, including Sign of the Cross and Genuflection
  • Visits to the Blessed Sacrament
  • Images of God and Catechists of the Good Shepherd curriculum
Literacy & Writing

Children explore language and develop early literacy by engaging in multi-sensory play and activities.

  • Handwriting Without Tears curriculum
  • Develop writing skills and artistic expression
  • Develop letter recognition and letter sound awareness

PreKindergarten

  • Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum to develop letter-sound awareness
  • Recognize capital and lowercase letters
  • Learn to write the name and other letters on lined paper
Mathematics

Play opportunities nurture a natural exploration of early math skills.
Preschool 3

  • Counting and recognizing numbers 1-10
  • Recognize colors and shapes
  • Daily calendar time

Preschool 4

  • Count to 100, recognize numbers 1-20, and write numbers 1-10
  • Solve simple addition problems 
  • Identify name and value of coins and understand how to tell time to the hour and half hour
Play & Experiential Learning

Establishing a foundation of natural curiosity in the world and a love of learning.

  • Opportunities for multisensory activities cultivate learning
  • Daily recess and outdoor time for gross motor skill development
  • Singing, dancing, and art projects encourage artistic expression and language skills
  • “Embers Town” playroom to nurture positive and creative learning through play

Three-Day (MWF) Options for PK3 & PK4

  • Half Days, 8:10 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Full Days, 8:10 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Five-Day Options for PK3 & PK4

  • Half Days, 8:10 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Full Days, 8:10 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
