Your Support Has Us Inspired!

This year’s Annual Fund drive was a resounding success. Not only did we far surpass our $250,000 goal, but a record-breaking 88 percent of our families and 100 percent of our board and full-time faculty & staff donated to this essential fundraiser. Thank you for your dedication to Embers’ continued growth. We are honored and inspired by your generous display of support!

Dear Families,

About once a week, I ask my son, Luke, what his favorite subject in school is. He likes them all, so his answer changes week to week. But on-brand for a Kindergarten boy, his most frequent response is, “Recess!”

Recess is a time for students to withdraw from the routine of classroom instruction and study, a break that is needed for both their mental and physical health. Just as importantly, during breaks like recess and lunch, students have the best opportunity to practice the virtues we emphasize as part of Embers’ commitment to character formation.

As Mr. Boville explains it, there are two kinds of choices our students make at recess. The first is practical. Shall I play soccer today? Climb on the jungle gym? Build a stick fort? Play tag? But the second kind is moral. Will I be a good teammate? Will I respect the rules of the game? Will I show kindness to other students?

As parents and teachers, we’re raising future adults, and we need to give them space to make both practical and moral choices. Sometimes they’ll make the wrong moral choices, but these are always opportunities for growth and further formation.

That’s where you come in! With our unstructured approach to recess, and as our school continues to grow, it would be wonderful to have more pairs of hands to help us both monitor and form our students. Parent volunteers are more than welcome to provide additional support.

Will you help us by volunteering to monitor recess one period a week? If you’re interested, please sign up HERE. And, as always, feel free to email Mr. Boville and me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Christopher Goffos
Headmaster

Soaring into the New Year!

This week’s featured Embers aircraft comes from the Carpenter family. Micheal – and big brother Kenobi – were airplane superstars! First, they built a fabulous looking plane, and then they dropped it from a drone, 100 feet up. Turns out that plane can REALLY fly!

We’d love to see more airplanes in action! Email your photos and videos to the email below:
