Dear Parents,

Any book worth reading to our children ought to be enjoyable to us parents, too. Each child of God has only one mind and one heart to form and nurture. We should choose books that are worthy of this reality, books that stir their imaginations and spark joy.

One such book I delightfully read to my own children is Just So Stories for Little Children, by Rudyard Kipling (1902). My very first professor in undergrad gave me a copy years ago. He had just begun reading it to his toddling grandchild, and he instructed me to read it to my future children, “to help them get the proper taste and sound of the English language in their mouths and ears early.”

“The Elephant’s Child” was my professor’s favorite entry in the collection, and mine. That “new” elephant “was full of ‘satiable curtiosity, and that means he asked ever so many questions. …and he filled all Africa with his ‘satiable curtiosities.” One fine morning, he asked a new question: “What does the Crocodile have for dinner?” The hilarious adventure that ensues sees the Elephant’s Child come of age in dramatic fashion.
As we begin this new school year together, we’re excited to have your curious sons and daughters back on campus. In our academic instruction and character formation, we will strive to fill their imaginations with all that is good and true.

Sincerely,
Christopher Goffos

Headmaster
