Year of St. Joseph

During the year of St. Joseph, we can use this wonderful opportunity to get to know him more and better. We can do this by praying the Litany to St. Joseph which brings to mind the important roles that he faithfully embraced.

In the next few newsletters, we will provide brief explanations of the titles of St. Joseph recited in the litany. To learn more, see the book Consecration to St. Joseph by Fr. Donald H. Calloway.

Noble son of the House of David  St. Joseph is of the line of King David. “Joseph was of the royal line of David and, in virtue of his marriage to Mary, would confer on the Son of the Virgin – on God’s Son – the legal title of ‘Son of David,’ thus fulfilling the prophecies.” –Pope Benedict XVI

St. Joseph is called the “Son of David” by the angel when he speaks to him in a dream and instructs Joseph to take Mary into his home.  The angel is reminding  St. Joseph of his royal ancestry and his important role in the coming of the Messiah.  God planned for his Eternal Son to be known by those around him as the son of a man of the house of David, and that man was St. Joseph.

Light of Patriarchs  “See how great was the faith of Abraham, the obedience of Isaac, the courage of David, the wisdom of Solomon.  Remember that Joseph is…at the head of the saints, the kings, the prophets, the patriarchs, that he is more faithful than Abraham, more obedient than Isaac, more generous than David, wiser than Solomon, in a word, as superior in grace as he is close to the source, Jesus sleeping in his arms.” –Blessed William Joseph Chaminade

St. Joseph, patriarch and foster father of Jesus, is the patron saint of heads of the family. He is invoked and prayed to for guidance and assistance to husbands and fathers. St. Joseph “concretely expressed his fatherhood by making an offering of himself in love, a love placed at the service of the Messiah who was growing to maturity in his home,” writes Pope Francis, quoting his predecessor St Paul VI.

Adoration in Embers St. Josemaria Chapel

In celebration of St. Joseph’s feast day yesterday, we had the beautiful opportunity to have Our Lord visit us in our St. Josemaria Chapel for Adoration! We will continue Adoration on Fridays and are grateful to Our Lady of Ransom’s Assoc. Pastor, Fr. Alex for bringing us the Blessed Sacrament!

Thank You!

A big “Thank You!” to an anonymous donor for helping St. Joseph’s feast day shine bright for our Sparks and their families! An Embers friend who has great love and devotion to St. Joseph has shared this love with Embers!

All pledge money is due on Friday, March 26th and proceeds from the Read-A-Thon will go towards literacy enhancements for all students at Embers. Pledges can be made online on the Embers website.  If you choose to pay for your student’s pledges this way, please note that students must still turn in pledge forms and reading logs to their teacher by March 26th. Prizes for the most pledge money turned in by March 26th will be announced before Easter Break.

Travel Guidelines for Easter Break

If you travel out of state to high-risk areas during Spring Break and/or attend gatherings, we suggest that you try to be back at home by the morning of Wednesday after Easter (April 7), giving you 5 days before returning to school to make sure that everyone is healthy. If your travel plans have you returning after April 7th, please contact Mrs. Reardon (kreardon@embersacademy.org) to receive guidance on a return-to-school date for your children.

We are appreciative for your prudence in your travel plans to help Embers maintain a healthy school environment for its families, faculty and staff in order to continue in-person instruction. Thank you!
