Living Holy Week

In the coming days, the Church has beautiful liturgies and devotions to help us prepare for Easter.  Here are a few resources to help celebrate the Sacred Triduum – the three days beginning at sundown on Holy Thursday to the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening.

  • Fr. Rocky’s Holy Week Mission – A special Holy Week mission series that takes a deeper look at all the events that led to the Crucifixion and glorious resurrection of Our Lord.

  • Pope Francis explains each day of the Sacred Triduum here.

  • Guide to Holy Week with a Holy Week Quiz and Customs.

  • Learn more HERE about a Holy Thursday tradition to visit seven churches after Mass.

  • Bishop Barron’s Stations of the Cross

  • On Holy Saturday, the Shroud of Turin, will be on virtual display.  The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth with an image of a crucified man and has been venerated for centuries as Christ’s burial cloth.  This will be only the fourth time the Shroud has been displayed since the turn of the century.

If you are unable to attend Mass on Easter Sunday, here are a few ways to watch Mass:

  1. The Pope’s Mass at the Vatican
  2. Mass from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. on Catholictv.org.
  3. EWTN Mass at 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  4. Listen to the Mass on Relevant Radio.

Year of St. Joseph

St. Joseph, husband of Mary, protector of her virginity, was a just and upright man. Although there are no writings or any record of any spoken words of St. Joseph, we have something more intimate — his dreams…

The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:18-25

Listen here to Fr. Leo’s podcast of St. Joseph: Model of Freedom

The following are brief explanations of the titles of St. Joseph recited in the Litany to St. Joseph.

Foster Father of the Son of God – St. Joseph may have been a simple carpenter on earth, but his role as foster-father of Jesus has gained him a special place in Heaven.  Jesus was obedient  and respectful to St. Joseph as he showed Jesus all the natural love that a father’s heart can give.

Faithful Guardian of Christ – God placed St. Joseph as head of the Holy Family, so that with fatherly care, he might watch over  and protect His only begotten Son.

Travel Guidelines for Spring Break (April 1st thru April 11th)

If you travel out of state to high-risk locations during Spring Break and/or attend gatherings, we encourage  that you try to be back at home by the morning of Wednesday after Easter (April 7), giving you 5 days before returning to school to make sure that everyone is healthy. Please refer to the following travel guidelines.

If your travel plans have you returning after April 7th, please contact Mrs. Reardon (kreardon@embersacademy.org) to receive guidance on a return-to-school date for your children.

We are appreciative of your prudent travel plans to help Embers maintain a healthy school environment for its families, faculty and staff so that we can continue offering in-person instruction. Thank you!
